Good Ideas For Teaching Kids About Dinosaurs?

Hey guys,
I’m a fairly new second grade teacher who just moved to Canada. I’ve never really taught at schools outside of Scotland before, so the curriculum is a bit different.
Anyways the current topic my 2nd graders are learning about are Dinosaurs. I have a couple fun ideas stocked up on projects and other things they can do which involve reading, writing and building things. We are also going to watch “The Magic School Bus in the Time of the Dinosaurs” at some point during the topic.
My oldest son is 3 years old and he hasn’t quite gotten to the dinosaur hype stage, so I’m not extremely familiar with cool things related to dinosaurs.
As parents of older children I was hoping some of you have come across the dinosaurs topic when your children were a bit younger. Even if you haven’t though and you have creative ideas related to the topic, your answers are highly appreciated.
Do you have any good ideas on things I could do with the kids involving dinosaurs?
Thanks.

Ideas For Character Names?

In my creative writing class at school we’re studying fantasy literature and our project for the next quarter is to write a story based on a published work of fantasy. I have the plot worked out pretty well, but I need a character name; I’ve tried the fantasy name generators, but they come up with really cheesy things. No offense to anyone, but names like “Jadia Wolfspane” and “Seraphim Fellslayer” really don’t work. I’d like a name that sounds relatively normal.
I need a name for my protagonist. Here’s some background information if you need it. The story is based loosely on Harry Potter (I know, possibly the most over-exploited work in the genre). The main character is a fifteen-year old girl (because the project requires that the protagonist be your age) who is a magic school dropout. In the story she has to bring four of her friends into the alternate wizarding world to keep them safe from her enemies while she works on defeating the antagonist evil group with some of her former classmates. Said wizarding world is very similar to that created by JK Rowling, which greatly excites the friends, all of whom have read the books. However, things in this world are just different enough from the Harry Potter books that the friends wind up getting involved with the wrong side, and the story goes from there.
The main character is about five foot two with light brown hair and dark eyes. She’s generally a quiet, sweet, friendly person and gets along with people very well. She has very pale skin with no freckles, and is fairly artistic and whimsical. Alternately, when she is responsible for her friends while they’re in the wizarding world, her personality becomes very dark, severe, and vaguely mysterious; at times she can be almost cruel and is very commanding and militant out of fear for her friends’ lives. She is also a werewolf, able to change into a white wolf at will but will also change involuntarily if her adrenaline spikes suddenly or if she gets too cold.
Anyway, suggestions would be helpful, especially with first names. My ideas for last names include Leidolf, Fenris, Garm, and Maugrim, all of which contain wolf references. Help?

Is There A Fine Line Between Similar Ideas And Downright Copying?

After reading a few cases where an author has sued a much more popular author, claiming they copied their story, citing similar ideas in both stories, I was wondering what is copying, and what is just similar ideas?
For example, if I were to write a story which has absolutely no similarity to Harry Potter, except a magic school and two best friends I would expect to be hit by a lawsuit.
But that wouldn’t be copying, for a magic school is not an entirely unique idea, but it was merely made famous by Harry Potter.
However, if I was living in a rain forest, and wrote a book with the exact same plot line as Harry Potter, but I had never read/heard it before, would it still be copying?
So, is there a line between having a similar idea/plot line to another author and ‘copying’ the story?

Which Of These Ideas Sounds More Interesting?

I was thinking about writing a book about a magic school COMPLETELY different from harry potter i swear. When I thought people might be getting tierd of reading about “magic school” books i mean jenny nemo author of Charlie Bone may have got away with it but I may not even if my idea is original so I’m gonna let u guys pick if it would be better to have a mentor tutor the special kids or for me to just go ahead with the school idea or tell me what you would like to see.

Anybody Have Good Fundraising Ideas?

I want to open a kid fun and kid safe card/ comic & toy shop. school. I don’t have very much start up funds, nor the greatest credit. There’s a trade center (Gibraltar Trade Center) consit of several booths with small business, mine is a little card/toy shop wich is a busy place. I have probably only 400 sq ft. This place is always packed. I haveve acess to the show area, so I have a nice size area yu-gi-oh, Magic,& other tournaments. The problem is the trade center’s only open 3 days a week and just raised their rent to $1200 a month. For about $800 more(everything included) I have found a building right next to a high school and elementry school, in a plaza perfect location! what I would offer incentives for kids to keep good grades by giving store credit for good grades. I think school is impportant. Do you think the school, or church would help raise funds to keep kids of the street? Even if they don’t, what are some good fundraising ideas? More detail in my profile. Any ideas?
