Asked in Books, but figured I’d get better exposure in this category:
D&D Dragonlance: Raistlin
D&D Forgotten Realms: Elminster
MIddle Earth’s Gandalf
King Arthur’s Merlin
Harry Potter: Harry, Dumbledore, Voldemort
The Sword of Truth: Richard;
Rift War series: Pug aka Milamber
or your choice of
Which fictional character can control and wield the most powerful magic?
Note: people like David Copperfield, Harry Blackstone Jr, and Doug Henning don’t count…wrong type of “magicians” :P

    I’d have to say Raistlin, he could have destroyed Tiamat (a god) and taken her place.
    None of the others are weak, though Gandalf manages to do all his good tricks when nobody is looking, leaving wide open the question of just how powerful he really is. And Merlin. Don’t even get me started. Total poser according to most sources, he rarely seems to use any actual magic and what he does is most often very subtle, probably because he can’t do anything else. His rep is built entirely on being the adviser for a king who failed to achieve any lasting success except renown in song and story, mostly for being cheated on by his wife and best friend, and then killed by his own son. Just what sort of advice did Merlin hand out anyhow? :)
